About Us:
Welcome to our Humble Abode...
This is just to get you a little acquainted with us before you arrive...
Hotel Mopan was founded in 1973 by Jean U. Shaw, J.P., M.B.E.. She was a pioneer in the Tourism Industry. In fact, she was the founding President of the Belize Tourism Industry Association.
She is well-recognized for all her time, effort and work for the country of Belize and in early 2000, my brother and I accepted a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Belize Tourism Board on her behalf.
Her efforts were also honored by her being the recipient of the title of M.B.E. (Member of the British Empire) from the Queen of England. A title she was very proud of. My mom had two kids... a boy and a girl... Tomy and Jeannie. I am Jeannie. My mom went on to greener pastures when she passed away December 6th, 1999 and left us the biggest job of having to fill her shoes - not to mention learning how to live without her.

We offer 2 in house Internet Stations to connect you to your family, friends and business associates.
We have been in operation since 1973 and have 30 years combined experience and we have EARNED a great reputation with many people who have graced our humble abode.
The metaphoric foundation of our establishment has been set by a trail blazing Belizean woman who has not only done a lot for Tourism in Belize but for Tourism in our Hotel. We have learned from the very best in the business.
We're just a stone throw away from historical landmarks such as St. John's Cathedral, House of Culture, Swing Bridge and the Market.
We are directly across the street from the local Continental Office for those of you who fly Continental. This allows you to check in early and head up to the airport closer to the time of the flight.

ALTUN HA and Baboon Sanctuary

Visit this famous Mayan Ceremonial and Trading Center, Altun Ha, where the large jade head of the Sun God was discovered. After a Belizean lunch, we continue on to the Baboon Sanctuary to see the Black Howlers in their natural habitat.

LAMANAI

Travel 1 hour by road from Belize City to Orange Walk Town, then a boat ride up the New River to this site. Along the way enjoy the many species of wild life including birds, turtles, crocodiles and more. Then, after lunch, enjoy visiting the Mayan site of Lamanai - see one of the tallest pre-classic buildings and also the battle grounds for the right to die.

BELIZE ZOO and Altun Ha

It is the largest zoo in Central America, but it's a habitat zoo. The animals are in their environment. There are so many four legged friends to make including April the Tapir - our National Animal.

CROOKED TREE BIRD SANCTUARY and Altun Ha

Boat cruise on Crooked Tree Lagoon accompanied by a birding guide. You will be delighted by the many different species of birds that call the lagoon home. After lunch, visit the Mayan Site of Altun Ha.

Tour the Belize Zoo and the Mayan site of Xunantunich. From the top of "El Castillo" (the tallest building in Belize) see the entire surroundings, including a bit of Guatemala.

Reservation Policy:
A non-refundable 10% deposit with the Tropical Travel Association is required in order to confirm your reservation. The 90% balance is due to the hotel upon arrival. In special circumstances Hotel Mopan has the right to apply additional requirements as long as they do so before the 10% deposit is paid.
Of Special Note:
We like to think of Hotel Mopan as a home away from home for our guests. Actually, some guests get so comfortable, they can sometimes be seen BEHIND the bar instead of around it! :-)
My brother and I are the main streamline to the Hotel now and with the help of a great staff, we have been able to create our own return guests. The most rewarding part is that we both get the opportunity to work hard in keeping our mom's legacy alive.

We are centrally located in Belize City which gives you access to great restaurants, bus terminals, boat terminals, diving companies, tour operators, Tourism Village, car rentals, souvenir shops and much more.
